Registered Veterinary Nurses 

• 100% SA RCVS Accredited
• Providing surgical and medical nursing support to the veterinary surgeons
• Monitoring anaesthesia, administering medications and diagnostic imaging.
• Providing a high level of nursing care to hospitalised patients.

• Admitting and discharging patients for various procedures.
• 
Assisting the veterinary surgeon in consultations when required.

• Dispensing animal medicines as directed by a veterinary surgeon.

• Practicing hygiene standards, maintaining and sterilising equipment.

• Surgical cleaning post procedures.
Kennel room and laboratory maintenance and cleaning.
• Taking part in the general housekeeping of the surgery, including front of house, kitchen and lavatory.

• Taking an active part in nurse clinics and supporting owners in all aspects of preventative care and nutritional advice.

Our nursing staff are also be heavily involved in all aspects of client care, including reception duties. The general reception duties undertaken will cover the following:

• Contact with clients or potential clients by phone or in person.
• Manage daily appointments for consultations and operations.
• Manage computer records.
• Complete vaccination certificates.
• Complete microchip forms.
• Handle repeat prescription medications.
• Handle cash and credit/debit card payments.
• Calculating fees and taking money from patients/clients.
• Completing insurance forms
  
  

Veterinary Surgeons

Undertake clinical duties on behalf of Aspen Vet Surgery on a full time basis at any of the 2 sites as deemed necessary, in accordance with standards and ethics of the veterinary profession and Aspen Veterinary Surgery policies and working practices.

Duties & Requirements

• To be fully qualified and registered with RCVS.
• To comply with the RCVS Code of Professional Conduct.
• To diagnose and treat sick and injured animals.
• To conduct all aspects of preventative medicine surgery and to deliver exceptional levels of client service.
• To exhibit team leadership skills, team motivation skills, and exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Mon-Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday half day on rota. Excludes bank holidays and Sunday.
• If deemed appropriate some periods may be sole charge.
• You may have to attend to inpatients during unsociable hours.
• There is no OOH cover required for new cases.
• To assist the Senior Veterinary Surgeon in implementing cost effective measures in running the practices.
• To assist in training of nursing and ancillary staff as required.
• To attend in house CPD and external CPD activities.
• Be available for events and community projects.
• Notice will be given if availability required for weekends.
• To participate in clinical governance and case discussions.
• You will need to provide efficient transportation in order to travel between branches.

All Aspen Staff

• Are well mannered and presentable with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have experience in procedures, nurse clinics, administration, client care and multibranch practices.
• Present referees for checking
• Work a 6 month probationary period
• Have a few years experience is desirable.
• Are available Mon-Fri for a possible 40 hour week and Saturdays on a rota 8am-2pm
• Be able to get to both our sites in Abbey Wood & Sidcup
• Receive 28 days holiday including bank and public holidays
